#assembloids
I enjoyed reading this paper from Wittbrodt lab on retinal lamination, using in vitro approach of retinal organoids/assembloids.

It adds to what we know about need for polarity cues in the developing retina and draws a parallel to invertebrate compound eye development.

The high throughput time-lapse imaging of assembloids was done on Bruker Luxendo Acquifer IM microscope. This assay benefits from the static stage of the microscope - the 96 well plate doesn't move during the acquisition (the optical unit moves instead).

Hundreds of thousands of people undergo general anesthesia every day, yet exactly how it produces unconsciousness is still not fully understood. 🧠💤 UCLA scientists have created a new way to study that process using human stem cell-derived brain models called assembloids. 🔗 https://ow.ly/KHJi50ZTIFY

A recurring trade-off: every layer of complexity (co-culture, engineered matrix, assembloids, transplantation) brings you closer to the tissue but costs experimental control. The most sophisticated system is not always the most informative.

Mornings are devoted to lectures, while afternoons are spent at the bench: going from building assembloids to imaging them and recording their electrical activity. Throughout the week, students also work together in small groups on a project. This year, by popular demand, we focused on assembloids
