"What do you want to be when you grow up?"

"I wanna be an astronomer who looks at pulsars"

As an astronomer, I am supportive of this tech to deliver vital comms services to regional, rural and remote regions needing connectivity access, as opposed to putting tens of thousands of satellites in orbit.

As an astronomer, I must also accept the UFO sighting reports to exponentially increase.
SoftCom and Skeye have partnered to launch a solar-powered, uncrewed, lighter-than-air aircraft that will hover in the atmosphere and beam down phone service. It covers the equivalent area of 500 cell towers. buff.ly/vM3bG55

One of my favourite things about doing e.g. Hamiltonian dynamics with perturbation theory by hand is that it makes me feel like an old timey astronomer

Reminded of the quip that the disbanding of the Jesuits was terrible news for Hell.

(That is, terrible news for Father Hell SJ, a German Jesuit astronomer.)

The famous Astronomer Carl Sagan wrote an interesting book concerning the evolution of humans and especially our magnificent brains or minds, depending on how one looks at it. Anyway, apparently many brains do not evolve into more humane brains while the body resembles humans.

I feel like astrophysicist has a small handful at the top: Hawking, Tyson, Sagan, etc

And if you count “astronomer” more broadly: Hubble, Newton, etc. lots of house hold names.

Sure, Halloween has all sorts of scary stuff, but it's all made up.

The universe is *real* and way, way more terrifying. So: what sort of cosmic horror scares an astronomer?
