New research:
🌳 Using global tree-ring data, it was found individual asynchrony plays a primary role in stabilizing population-level tree growth, especially in the tropics.🌲

New pre-print on heterogeneity- stability relationship led by @jsola.bsky.social: Using a long-term #RockyShore experiment we show substrate heterogeneity promotes stability via biodiversity and asynchrony, but simultaneously inhibits stabilising dominants. www.authorea.com/users/795647...
Counteracting cascades challenge the heterogeneity -- stability relationship
Spatial environmental heterogeneity is widely assumed to enhance ecological stability by promoting refugia, biodiversity, and asynchrony. Yet, we lack field experiments testing this fundamental relati...

We’ve started a new series: Designing for Isolation

Learn how designing for isolation from the beginning lets you embrace non-Sendable types, maintain thread safety, and keep asynchrony from infecting every corner of your codebase.

Plant species richness increased biomass stability due to an increase in plant species asynchrony. Food web complexity alone did not impact community stability, but it further increased species asynchrony at high plant species richness.

🍃In a 5-year grassland experiment with >2,000 leaf trait measurements, authors show that fast-growing species destabilize productivity and that trait differences drive species asynchrony in ways that change with species richness 👉️ buff.ly/TTcrmjw

Warmer springs can increase hatching asynchrony in birds, & in the lab's new paper (led by former @lsubiosci.bsky.social PhD student Keegan Stansberry) we found asynchrony has persistent negative effects on free-living European starling nestlings, esp the smallest "runts": doi.org/10.1002/jez.... 🪺🧪
