i would broadly agree with "act like fucking adults" legislation including rather steep penalties and sarbox level auditability requirements and am somewhat sad that these are not the ones people promote

As a tech lawyer who works on a *lot* of software contracts, I'd point out that if you add restrictions like these to an agreement without assuring both technical feasibility and independent auditability,
then all you've written is a termination for convenience clause with extra steps.

One of my biggest shocks when I started working in finance is that there's not really much "security". Instead the software focuses on auditability: there's a log of everything. Doing things you're not supposed to is easy. Pretending you didn't do it after the fact is hard.

I haven't done it yet, but I plan to build a mirror of plc.directory which will improve auditability and accountability (because right now there's a fair amount of faith put in plc.directory being honest)

Exactly. The label sells the budget, but delivery still lives or dies on workflow ownership, review points and auditability. Without that, 'agentic' is just procurement theatre.

“Moderately” because a ledger is not a full accounting system and blockchain does not include the controls or auditability of robust, GAAP compliant double-entry bookkeeping. It’s a small, potentially interesting tool in a much larger toolbox.

In some cases people are creating apps that jump through weird technical hoops to be "better" "more private" than the most popular secret messengers, without any sort of recognition for the social side of secure messaging.

Deferring auditability isn't the goal, but shipping a black box with a receipt attached doesn't solve the trust problem. We're building the system so the audit trail is the default, not an afterthought bolted on later.

Most of the people who understand how DoD finances work do not wear uniforms. The civilians who do will be running gutted offices struggling to just keep the lights on. I suspect these cuts will set back the push for auditability by years.
The DoD has never passed an audit and no doubt its spending should be reviewed. But Sec Hegseth knows little about how DoD works, and less about national security. It would be a good idea to bring in some expertise rather than just throwing the axes.

Auto-deleting “because storage is running out” in the public sphere is a problematic practice. It undermines transparency, accountability, and security. What’s needed instead are clear policies, proper archiving, and auditability.
