#auto-journalism
It’s a dark era for journalism but truly a golden age for the “I no longer work here” auto reply email industry.

My auto-boilerplate for all such binary left-right Whither Democrats journalism. www.nytimes.com/2025/11/09/u...

If anybody is wondering how super awesome the journalism industry is doing, I decided to do reach out emails to previous pitch editors I hadn’t worked with in the past year. More than 50% of those emails returned back to me or gave an auto-response saying they no longer worked there.

Today: @eggerdc.bsky.social explains that if you think MAGA journalism is bad now (it is!)--just wait.

Whereas I'm (uncharacteristically)upbeat, heartened by recent signs of resistance--including the admirable Ford auto worker who confronted Trump, TJ Sabula.

If You Think MAGA Journalism Is Bad Now, Just Wait
The mayhem in Minnesota is partially the fault of one pup “reporter” chasing clicks.

Auto journalism is so screwed, man. There have been numerous articles over the years about this trend, but staying in the OEMs' good graces is far more important, especially with the consolidation of almost every auto journo outlet. This trend is literally killing people, a lot of them children.

every single insane tech journalism question about AI can be answered (correctly) by saying "its autocomplete"

is AI going rogue ?? no, its autocomplete

why is AI telling people weird stuff ?? ITS AUTOCOMPLETE

is AI just saying what people want to hear? IT

IS

AUTO

Same. After eight years in games journalism my brain even reads it as Grand Theft Auto at this point.

i met tim sweeney at a mclaren track day event years ago during my auto journalism days and let me tell you; that guy has every bad opinion you could be worried about a billionaire having
So Epic is including the Cybertruck in Fortnite and Rocket League, which is no surprise because Epic CEO Tim Sweeney is an Elon fanboy.

But apparently employees at Epic really, really aren't.

Wonder how long they keep their jobs.

A manifestation of the #MurdochIsFakeNews infestation of the ABC #Auspol.
Do they have the same uproar over Tesla?

Tech Journalism is not journalism. It’s no different than Auto trade mags or the media covering the bike industry (actually that is the best analogy).

It’s just fanboy media coverage satisfying a market for an audience that just wants to constantly be fed information as food for the soul.

Gotta say, hitting the year mark of when I first launched my independent news outlet is SCARY. I've had about a 10% drop in income after passing the "auto renew" dates from my initial launch, eek!

If you have some extra cash and wanna spend it on some independent journalism, consider subscribing :)

I love the "whole paragraph of kind words followed by a big yikes at the end" genre of auto journalism. Truly the IGN 8 of good reviews

may I … humbly suggest….. the city reporter …. dot nyc??? (no paywall, no weird glitches or auto-play videos I promise!!) just Da News

I think this still largely holds up: Ontario's problem isn't Chinese EV imports (which will be modest even with today's deal) it's a floundering domestic auto sector and no prospect for sufficient demand for the batteries we want to build. www.tvo.org/article/anal...

people follow me because i'm pretty and they desire my curls. also the auto journalism i guess

I was one of the 20,000 who subscribed to @slate.com when Michael Kinsley made the case for paywall journalism in 1998. They sent me a golf umbrella.

Today’s lead story is by the Bluesky eejit who doubled down prescribing guns and Second Amendment for Belfast self-defense.

Auto-renew is off.

Ontario’s auto sector is faltering. What’s Plan B?
We thought we could protect auto jobs with subsidies and tariffs. Trump had other ideas. #cdnpoli

Something AI actually does right is auto transcription. When i first pivoted to journalism in 2015 I was manually transcribing and it was hell. I'd say auto transcriptions are like 80% accurate which is perfect for scanning and finding the thing a source said.

i try to figure out an infotainment system on media day at the la auto show -- true #automotive #journalism
November 22, 2024 at 3:44 AM
[quietly] I don't even really understand HOW people are using AI to do their journalism? I use otter to auto-transcribe while recording and STILL end up listening back to all my interviews and re-transcribing the highlights because I need to internalize what was said to form a coherent conclusion.

Wow! Caught a subscription that was $30 last year before it shot up to $120. I was expecting it to go to $60 and would completely have continued at that price. They also immediately cut me off instead of continuing access through my paid period.

Support independent journalism, but never auto renew.

Hi @thenation.com, in the last hour you have posted five times on X but not at all on Bsky. We know you know the issues with X and its lack of support for journalism. It would be great if you posted here more! Buffer is free and allows auto cross posting.

Don't know why DuckDuckGo seems to be having issues with searches for Giant Bomb, to the point I needed to add quotes and set it to past day...

But there's something weirdly fitting to finding out what's going on via a SomethingAwful forum post

Big word fun time is pretty pervasive in auto journalism.
