YouTube it's already annoying enough that you let manual claims force me to mute chunks of my video without letting me filter out the claimed audio, but can whatever bullshit AI autocaptioning system you've recently snuck in there please stop removing my captions from the muted parts. like cmon -R

Since i wrote this the situation has progressed to CR using autocaptioning that in my experience A) isn't consistently accurate and B) isn't reliably available on every episode.

My unpopular opinion is that YouTubers who rely on autocaptioning without vetting the output and correcting its numerous errors should be ashamed of themselves
One nice example of generative slop degrading quality is in auto captions for social media vids
Speech to text is getting MASSIVELY worse as it becomes more and more generative, and often it completely changes the meaning on insta, tiktok etc. That gets worse as companies squeeze compute and power

Well, she also pronounces a number of those words with far more syllables than they actually have, which does complicate things. Autocaptioning on songs is frequently much worse than it is on spoken word.

Do you know that I fully caption all of my videos with dialogue in them? Everyone should have equal access, even to adult content!
If you're a creator who doesn't do this, consider trying it, there are lots of editing software which do autocaptioning

The habit of just leaving autocaptioning mistakes in videos has gone too far. Like yeah, a couple of obviously understood near-homophones, fine, but the whole point of captioning is so people who can't hear or don't have sound on can know what you're saying, and it's lately become incomprehensible.

I want to comply with the new ADA Title II requirements that the university is saying (just now in an email I received after the semester began) are mandatory for Zoom classes but it cannot handle live autocaptioning of multilingual class sessions so I don't know what to do with that
