#aveek folks… I hate to admit this is also me. The past 48 hours have been a whirlwind both online & irl.

Happy Pride to everyone. Thinking about how my late uncle Aveek (lost to the pandemic), who was the first openly queer person I knew, gently told me I was queer many years before I realised it myself (I denied it at the time). I think it was not long after the below book was published.
It's Pride month, so I'll say that my debut THE DEVOURERS, a novel about shapeshifters and queerness, sex and sexual violence, probably helped me figure out I was genderqueer & had experienced sexual assault (both belatedly, after publication). It also helps (v modestly) me earn an income:

Happy Pride to everyone. Thinking about how my late uncle Aveek (lost to the pandemic), who was the first openly queer person I knew, gently told me I was queer many years before I realised it myself (I denied it at the time). I think it was not long after the below book was published.
Dreamed that my uncle Aveek, who died in the pandemic (in waking life), returned to us, uncanny--thinner, younger, but also different, not necessarily malevolent, but not quite the same person. We couldn't believe it, refused to, letting this revenant stay among us, but not accepting him as Aveek.

Aveek is 1/2 right. It originated in the 2000s when being overtly racist/ethnonationalist was taboo, so the anti-immigration zealots (Migration Watch etc) adopted the "small crowded island" line to give themselves plausible deniability.

I agree Aveek, Trump's interest in Tactical nukes worries me. They're the 'perfect' Bond Villain weapon and I imagine Trump thinks that he can use them the same way.
