#Azhdarchids have to be regarded as the most distinctive and unusual of #pterosaurs, and views on how they might have lived have varied considerably. In 2008, @markwitton.bsky.social and I examined the skeletal proportions, cranial anatomy and sedimentological setting of azhdarchids and concluded...

I'd forgotten that I own this postcard showing John Sibbick's art of Arambourgiania (the azhdarchid) as a marine skim-feeder. This is the view of #azhdarchids that Mark Witton and I were surrounded by when we did our research on azhdarchid ecology and functional morphology.

This Arambourgiania continues to prove that azhdarchids are nonsense animals.

Jidapterus, showing of it's speculative cheeks.
At least some azhdarchids appear to have an extremely short tail, so much that it's questionable if it was even visible in the living animal.

I don't think I ever posted this here. My greatest work. That time I fixed azhdarchids and made them normal once and for all.

Hell Creek Crossing

A2 (16.5 x 23.5in) private commission

A pair of T. rexes harass a gathering of Triceratops crossing a river.

Overhead a pair of azhdarchids and a flock of wading birds take flight.

I've included a few details.

ok, now for the azhdarchoids. There are a handful of reports of Late Jurassic or Early Cretaceous Azhdarchids. We tested these phylogenetically and.... none of them are azhdarchids. They are either ctenochasmtoids, which have convergently long necks, or non-azhdarchid azhdarchoids. 8/

The idea has been put forward that Azhdarchids were able to fly over oceans in between continents. We don't have any evidence of this in their actual distribution. But we do have several azhdarchids whose closest relatives were on a different continent. 19/
