Also on #pterosaurs, Dinosaur Isle is home to the life-sized pterosaur heads made by @markwitton.bsky.social and team for the 2010 Royal Society Summer Science Festival. It's great that they found a permanent home (and sad that the life-sized azhdarchids never did)...

The holotype of the anhanguerian pterosaur Caulkicephalus is also on show. Its name means 'caulk head', a term once used for Isle of Wight people in the boat-building industry. A name also commemorated in this Sandown pub... #pterosaurs

New interactive globes on Pteros! Most of our pterosaur pages now show where each animal lived, on the Earth as it was then. Spin it, lay it flat, tap a fossil site. Pteranodon's fossil sites sit in the sea that once split North America in two. fossi.ls/pteros-maps

But things were cramped. Plans to move to a new site were realised in 2001 when the old museum closed, and Dinosaur Isle opened. Here it is as of 2019. It's a pterosaur-shaped building...

If you’re into #ornithology #paleoart or just birds and #dinosaurs in general take a listen to the latest #terriblelizards with katrina van grouw. @davehone.bsky.social gets very excited and we go on a long tangent about pterosaur vs frigate bird wings. www.patreon.com/terribleliza...

What happened at the October Andy's Toy Fair, you ask? Some interesting variants, most notable being the 1990 crestless version of the DinoRiders Quetzalcoatlus. Toy fairs and vintage toy sales are on the up. Several reasons for this, I could write an essay.

Talking next week on Speculative Zoology and the legacy of Dougal Dixon's The New Dinosaurs, which I see as an emissary of the dinosaur renaissance and a subversive effort to bring avant garde dinosaurs and pterosaurs to the masses.

Happy #FossilFriday! A new study reveals the first dentary crest in Brasileodactylus araripensis, a Cretaceous pterosaur from Brazil. This discovery highlights how growth and sexual dimorphism may have shaped pterosaur evolution and taxonomy.
