It's #WorldWaterDay and Candian-owned FaradayCopper is guzzling the Sonoran Desert's critical water (paying nothing, no reporting or restrictions on usage). Coues #deer, #bobcat #AZwater

This is what's at stake in the rare Sky Islands of the Galiuros at Copper Creek:
Jewel in the desert: Copper Creek's water source provides life for so many animals. Coues deer play in running water at Copper Creek during springtime (deer running and splashing). Stretches of Copper Creek include pooling water year-round. Rock formations create tiny waterfalls and drinking pools. A bobcat crouches to drink water from the Copper Creek area during fall. It's spotted colors blend with pale, fallen leaves.

Spent time on one of the mitigation properties along the lower San Pedro, monitoring stream flow. Such important conservation land along some of the river's remaining perennial stretches, threatened by #mining. Wild #turkeys, #riparian areas of #cottonwoods and #willows. #AZWater
A female wild turkey shows us her backside with her beautiful white-tipped tail and wings. This perennial stretch of river has a lovely cottonwood canopy and lush vegetation growing alongside the river. There willows only recently grew back in once the trespass cattle were removed. They love grazing on the tender shoots and destroy any of the native vegetation trying to make a comeback.

Per AZ BLM 2300 letters with 7500 comments submitted… “only a few” were in support of Faraday Copper. But they still approved drilling on public land. So much for “social license”. Zero community support. 1872 mining law strikes again.

Of all the times I've hiked AZ's beautiful #AravaipaCanyon - just down the road from my home (20 xs?) - I've never investigated the side canyons.

When I took journalists out to cover the plight of the Lower San Pedro Watershed (due to #coppermining threats), look what we found (1st pic)! #AZWater
Only about 10% of the original riparian land in Arizona remains in its natural state, including Aravaipa Creek and its 21 miles of perennial stream. Even overcast days are lovely in Arizona's Aravaipa Wilderness.

Should our underground bodies of water in AZ be used in a way that creates water security?

Or should this water be used as a way for those in power to give to exporters of cattle feed & mines for power & campaign contributions in return?

It takes a thousand years to recharge the aquifers underground in Arizona. So, what is taken from our wells underneath us is gone for our life time and generations to come.

Without any regulation on using this water in our rural areas, our water is used up for corporate profits
