#bareroot
If you're tired of the Sumner variety. Maybe some of the bareroot American Indian types will mix in; They're mostly not cultivar.
I just started growing them last year, but they're at least 25 years old.
Indians knew tree lineage better than anyone. They did genes. Caddo. I Had 450 Kiowa.

I got these bareroot from Home Depot for $10 each 😈 I did a bad job planting them so they've been dormant for 3 years but I put them in pots in the spring and now they're growing! no boring roses!!

I have posted this rose before - but what a garden performer. In the ground 3 months from bareroot and blooming again.

Trees are part of that infrastructure. Since 2020, we've planted 576,000 — with a goal of 1 million by 2030. That includes 32,000 bareroot trees in 2024 alone, backed by $12M in Emerald Ash Borer grants and $500K in annual canopy grants. 2/

Second attempt at a flower (first was badly heat damaged) for new rose (planted bareroot in June) in a new garden space.

This is Champagne Dreams.

And I learnt more about growing bareroot perennials; the importance of researching my plant choices; and being more mindful about where I plant things. I also discovered another plant that I know not to buy again because I didn’t find it quite as pretty and useful as it looked on the website.

I could be wrong, but I don't think cbsa cares about bareroot cacti. Nothing personal, but I don't think I will be crossing the border until about 2029 or so haha

Update: I can't. Just saw that you are in Canada, sorry. Could mail them to Bellingham if you ever come stateside! They'll be bareroot so maybe you could just get them inspected by customs when you go back across?

Right? What's weird is we had thornless boysenberry that we got from a friend, idk how the heck she got it, but both her plants and our plants absolutely sucked and didn't produce more than a handful. BUT this year we have blackberry plants from Pomona, hoping! sarvodayainstitute.org/products/bar...

I bought these roses bareroot, so I had not seen them either.

These are a legacy project; I am planting flowers in honor of my ancestors, so when they regrow or bloom it’s like being visited.

The 4 bareroot Seedless Concord Grapes are planted and safe from ferocious chickens and ravenous deer. My hope is they'll grow fast with all the compost and fresh soil amendments. If not I got more green plastic fence to look at for the season.

Jeg ELSKER dem, men jeg havde faktisk kommet til at købe de forkerte bareroot planter og de her stikker så sindssygt. Ville have haft dem med samme look, men bløde spidser. Så de kommer ikke i en buket, selv om de var købt til at kunne det.

I desperately want one of these trees. The apples are so pretty.

Also, how fun apples keep making new varieties all on their own.

Of course, the perennials both looked tiny when I put the lilac in because they’d only just re-emerged from dormancy.

But they’re established plants next to a brand new one that didn’t even have leaves to begin with because it was bareroot and they soon started to muscle in on it.

You should be proactive about this, especially when planting into established borders. I planted a bareroot lilac in one of the beds this spring. I was a bit over-enthusiastic and didn’t start it in a pot first, I just whacked it straight out into its final position.

I’m waiting until winter to move a hawthorn that’s been a victim of its own success. It grew from bareroot extremely well but I hadn’t staked it securely enough.

I was pretty concerned these were dead when I planted them, but they were free so well worth a couple minutes and some cardboard

I was right the stems were dead, but the roots are alive!

Looks like all 6 took, so elderberry jam for everyone!

Roots Plants sent me fantastic bareroot trees that arrived quickly and have done well. A specialist nursery is often a much wiser choice than a jack-of all-trades, especially for your pricier plants.
