I occasionally send what I've been calling Lazy Latin Translations to friends and decided that I would like to contribute to the whimsy balance in the world so may I present: Butterfly Barrelmakers.

For once, a Minneapolis idea spreads to Chicago (barrelmakers, or coopers, forming co-ops, Jan. 7, 1887 Chicago Tribune)

Some people's ancestors were smiths or potters or barrelmakers (coopers). Some families took their name from their hometown (like Washington or Lincoln). My ancestors were just the weirdos who hung out by that big oak tree with the hollow in its trunk 😆

Now for baseball, I’m torn between two:

⚾️ Tullies (from the city name, in the same vein as the Philadelphia Phillies)
⚾️ Coopers (barrelmakers, reference to the brewing industry without straight up stealing the name of the Milwaukee Brewers, who I slightly dislike)

Only thing I'd disagree with is that 19th c. MN co-ops were largely agricultural. Mpls barrelmakers had co-ops in the 1880s that onetime Southwest State prof Steven Leiken covers in his book "The Practical Utopians: American Workers and the Cooperative Movement in the Gilded Age"
