#bcstx has seen less than 40% of normal rainfall since September.

The last 7 months should have left behind ~25".

We're more than 15 inches in the hole to close out March.

This ain't your grandparent's October...

Halfway through the month, #bcstx has walked out to the:
• 6th warmest Oct 1-15 of record
• 2nd most 90° days (14 out of 15 days -- #1 - 2024, 1938, 1931)
• Average month-to-date temp: 79.6° (+8.5° ABOVE the expected October average)

I went to the #bcstx Costco today and put my car sunshade in the windshield to keep the car cool. While 81F in Dec. is actually pretty comfortable, I can't help but think of what those extra degrees of warmth will feel like in August.
#bcstx officially topped off at 81° this afternoon at Easterwood Airport.

We'll put Christmas Eve Eve 2025 in the books as tying for the THIRD hottest December 23rd of record (alongside 1955)

#bcstx won’t climb above 32° today, a rarity here

But over the last 50 years, nights below freezing have declined due to climate change

Sounds good, right? Nope. These cold nights help zap mosquitoes & provide “chill hours” for plants/trees to rest & prep for the growing season

#bcstx hit 83°F Sunday: 13° above avg for Nov. 16. More like early October than mid-November.

Warmth sticks around Mon-Wed. Highs forecast to tie/break daily records.

@climatecentral.org’s Climate Shift Index shows this kind of fall warmth is now at least 2x more likely because of climate change.

Critical Fire Weather in the Brazos Valley today (Saturday)

🚫🔥 RED FLAG WARNING in effect until 8pm

Brisk north winds to 15-25mph + extremely dry air (humidity <20%) + dormant vegetation = a small spark that can ignite & spread quickly

As of 3pm in #bcstx at @tamu.bsky.social Kyle Field:

🥵Feels-like (in the shade) up to 112°.

If you're on/headed to campus for 🇦🇷Argentina vs. Honduras🇭🇳, cooling breaks & plenty of water (plus a bit more on top of that) is needed #txwx

An exceptionally big "thank you" to @kamutvfm.bsky.social for having me along for a chat about climate change's impact on #bcstx -- particularly how urban heat island effect (also manmade) is boosting temperatures throughout Brazos County

Give the episode a listen or watch 👇👇
Yes, it’s hotter and for longer in Aggieland.

@climatecentral.org's @shelwinkleywx.bsky.social tells us exactly how much hotter due to urban heat islands in BCS, Northgate and even at Texas A&M — and what can be done about it.

While there is still cold weather to be experienced, in a human-induced, warming climate heat extremes are becoming more extreme & common than cold ones.

Take #bcstx, since 2020 our community has experienced:
🥵62 record highs
🥶4 (ONLY FOUR) record lows
December 5, 2024 at 2:40 AM
#bcstx is hotter today than for generations of Aggies.

Climate change + urban heat islands = local heat impacts you are walking out to today.

How much hotter? What can we do?

One heck of a warm nose...

0z NAM 12km forecast sounding for what the atmosphere will look like over the Brazos Valley Saturday night.

Warm, moist air ~2,500' - 10,000' allows rain to fall.
At/sub-32°, shallow Arctic air at the ground allows it to freeze on contact

Friday weather in the Brazos Valley.

Drippy.
Soggy.
Wet.
Rumbly.

Overall severe threat is low...ponding of water/low-lying flooding, gusty wind, brief (sub-severe) small hail not ruled out with strongest storms here and there

A record 84° in #bcstx on February 3rd.

🔴These unusual, spring-like temperatures you experienced today in the Brazos Valley are now at least ▶️TWICE as likely◀️ to occur going forward due to human-caused climate change.

Another record. Another fingerprint of climate change expected Tuesday.
