Aren't the tides in the Severn some of the highest in the world, too? (It's a thing I still find a bit odd about beaches outside the UK - just how short they can be, because the sea isn't going all the way from *here* to *there* on the regular.)

I spent a lot of time there. Had a place in Alvor for 15 years (which I recommend). But I'd stay near Lagos if I were you. Great town. Huge beaches. Plenty to do.

Since we've defunded science I now know that climate change is an obvious hoax. But the huge uptick in mosquitos in SD and the impending maybe permanent loss of many SoCal beaches this weekend seems like a really elaborate plan to make the old hoax seem real.

Isaias left behind a trail of damaged rooftops, downed power lines and flooded roadways Saturday as it weakened and was no longer a hurricane. It was blamed for at least one death in Florida after a tree fell on a home. The storm made landfall Friday near Destin, Fla., a Gulf Coast area known for powdery white-sand beaches and dotted with vacation homes, waterfront bars and seafood shacks.
