FL schools just sent us parents an email letting us know the app Beanstack has been banned, "because it may include inappropriate reading material". Come to find out, it's just a reading tracking app that one parent misunderstood and has zero content on it.

Another thing you can do for the queer artists and writers and so on whose work you admire this Pride month: go give their books etc solid star ratings on (sigh) sites like Amazon and Goodreads. Because people who hate the existence of that work are always gonna be punitively low-rating them,

When Beanstack goes down it's a huge hit to our productivity. Not just because of the inconvenience with logging patron signups, but also because of the time lost to library staff collaboratively writing lyrics to the full-on Backstreet Boys parody "Beanstack's Back, All Right."

Beanstack is an app to host reading challenges and track reading goals; it doesn't provide access to books' contents — yet the mere mention of particular titles is enough to warrant a ban
Also, the Franklin website still directs people to Beanstack for the classroom library catalog. So, is it really ready if it’s not in use?

In the same way they don’t really read the books they attack, FL book banners clearly haven’t used Beanstack. I have, both as a librarian & patron. Beanstack’s “content” is user created: titles & authors of books the user has read. Objecting to Beanstack = objecting to reading altogether.
