During the 1770 #BengalFamine, #EastIndiaCompany continued exporting rice while millions starved.
Company trade law prioritized export contracts over feeding locals.

Thanks for the amazing fan art! 🎨 The artist aimed to provoke dialogue on a complex historical issue rather than just criticize Churchill. Exploring narratives like the Bengal Famine is vital for understanding history, and such discussions foster deeper insights. #bengalfamine

Churchill at war...can't understand how he can be celebrated as a leader especially when blood and nothing but blood adornes his image in history #bengalfamine
WWII leadership lauded yet Colonialist and racist ugliness acknowledged at the same time, history is convoluted in more than a few ways!

To add to the list: his policies actively contributed to the 1943 Bengal Famine, which killed 3 million people.

He diverted food to British stockpiles while blaming the victims for "breeding like rabbits."

This is a core part of his legacy.

That "complex & controversial" part is key.

This is the same man who sent troops against striking Welsh miners in Tonypandy and was a key architect of the brutal Black and Tans in Ireland.

That's the part of the "hero" that's always forgotten.

Watching "Darkest Hour." Gary Oldman is fantastic, but it's a complicated watch.

The mainstream veneration of Churchill is deeply problematic. He was a complex & controversial figure, not a simple hero.

Also, Gary Oldman is younger than Gary Numan.

Below empire.

This is not famine.
This is allocation.

And allocation is power.

So when someone calls colonialism “development” —

The #BengalFamine began recording starvation deaths around #ThisDayInHistory in 1943. With up to 4 million dead, it is an indictment of the #BritishEmpire and of #WinstonChurchill, idiot defender of the #BritishRaj, whose callous indifference saw food supplies directed elsewhere.

At a time when #GreatBritain faced no danger of food shortages while #India was in dire need of food imports, on #ThisDayInHistory in 1943 the vicious imperialist PM #WinstonChurchill ordered Indian Ocean shipping cut by 56%. The #BengalFamine was the result, with 3 million dead.

“The sight of emaciated children crawling to food depots is no longer shocking. It has become normal.”
- The Statesman (Aug 1943)

Politically inflicted famine is of all ages.

So is morally bankrupt leadership:
“If food is so scarce, why hasn’t Gandhi died yet?”
- W. Churchill.
