What can mapping beaver building tell us about beaver decision-making?
How can this be used to inform landscape management?

Animal agriculture is the leading driver of biodiversity loss.

ourworldindata.org/land-use-diets
If the world adopted a plant-based diet, we would reduce global agricultural land use from 4 to 1 billion hectares
We could reduce the amount of land used for grazing and croplands used to grow animal feed.

People of the Oceans: Scaling Nature-based Solutions for biodiversity, climate and livelihoods
This is the challenge at the heart of the Regenerative Seascapes for People, Climate and Nature (ReSea) project, implemented by IUCN and Mission Inclusion (MI), with support from Global Affairs Canada (GAC). Through its regenerative seascapes approach, ReSea connects ecosystem health with community governance, climate resilience and sustainable livelihoods. At CBD COP17 in Yerevan, Armenia, government representatives, conservation practitioners and ocean leaders were brought together by the ReSea project to discuss how the People of the Oceans can be better recognised, to deliver strengthened and scaled ocean-climate action. Who are the People of the Oceans? The People of the Oceans are ocean-dependent people, including Indigenous Peoples, local communities, small-scale fishers, women, young people and coastal and island communities whose lives, cultures and livelihoods are closely connected to the sea. They are not only affected by environmental change: their knowledge, governance systems and day-to-day stewardship are central to the health of marine and coastal ecosystems. Healthy oceans and thriving communities are inseparable Opening the session, Ms Sónia Muando, National Director of Environment and Climate Change in Mozambique’s Ministry of Agriculture, Environment and Fisheries, emphasised that ocean health and human well-being cannot be separated. She noted that more than 65 million people...

Thank you @georgemonbiot.bsky.social for drawing people’s attention to the importance of land use, which, unfortunately hasn’t made it to the headlines. It’s crucial for biodiversity and thus our survival. Land use is also a strong argument for a plant-based diet.

IUCN and Sweden launch major new partnership to advance Nature-based Solutions for biodiversity and resilient communities
The three-year programme, supported by Sweden with a budget of SEK 30 million (approximately EUR 2.7 million), will help restore ecosystems, strengthen biodiversity, and enhance the resilience and well-being of rural communities across Armenia through the implementation of Nature-based Solutions. The initiative represents a strategic partnership between the Government of Armenia, the Government of Sweden and IUCN to advance the implementation of Nature-based Solutions across Armenia. The programme will support the restoration of river corridors and degraded agricultural landscapes in rural areas, promote climate-resilient land management practices, and strengthen the capacity of local stakeholders to design and implement Nature-based Solutions that benefit both people and nature. These efforts will enhance biodiversity and increase the resilience of local communities, while contributing to Armenia's commitments under the three Rio Conventions and the EU Green Agenda. Implemented by IUCN in close partnership with the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Armenia and a consortium of partners - the Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets (FPWC), Charitable Public Organisation “Shen” (Shen NGO), the American University of Armenia (AUA) and Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) - the project will combine on-the-ground ecosystem restoration with policy support, capacity development, knowledge generation, and resource...
