Commissioners warn DEQ monitoring gaps threaten basin plans’ data backbone
Committee members pressed DEQ on shrinking biological monitoring capacity, noting some benthic sites have not been revisited since the 1990s. DEQ attributed gaps to flat federal grants and staffing constraints and was asked to return with options to shore up monitoring.
