I wonder how fast it will be for Texas to start unfucking people by doing things like eliminating all of the GOP's petty bigotry-based laws and rules... from abortion bans to bans on pride flags and crosswalks and trans healthcare bans and the rest.

And I wonder how much blowback they'll get. UGH.

As much as I hate Vance, he's right this time. Start a war, $4 gas, $7 diesel, All the while telling us the economy is on fire, it's the hottest it has ever been. Blowback.

This is why Dems should start with universally popular bills like ending the war and ending Tariffs, healthcare care subsidies, etc, to draw in Republicans to create veto proof majorities.

Once R’s get wins under their belt with no meaningful blowback from Trump, the door is open to impeachments
Trump posted this last night, just in case you thought he might try to work with Democrats. Can't veto a subpoena though.

Anthropic says risks for investors include blowback from runaway AI
Any time a company looks to start selling shares on Wall Street, it's required to disclose potential risks to investors. In the case of artificial intelligence giant Anthropic, that has included the possibility that its products could threaten nothing less than humanity itself. The risks laid out by the San Francisco company in its filing Monday with the Securities and Exchange Commission included discussion of bad actors potentially using AI models to build deadly weapons or the technology itself going rogue with untold consequences. Of the 335 pages outlining Anthropic's finances, executive compensation, dividend policy and the like, 93 pages are devoted to "risk factors" — the things that could hurt potential shareholders' investments. Rival SpaceX's listed risk factors, in comparison, took up 38 out of more than 250 pages. In selling itself to investors, Anthropic presents its own initial public offering as a step toward mitigating the risks it believes AI poses. "To build AI is to harness cognition itself, and anything so powerful can be used for ill as well as good," wrote the company's founders in a letter to prospective shareholders in the IPO filing. "Anthropic is a deeply values-driven organization, founded in large part to help...

There’s no one who knows more about the AD business than you (it’s why I love your newsletter) but there have been 415 Olympic and women’s sports teams cut since the start of the. NiL era and every one of them gets blowback in the press. It would be convenient for government to do it for them.

i have come to genuinely detest a subset of AI/tech people. It’s a pattern. One of them will make an outrageous dehumanizing ugly claim seeking ‘blowback’ about their little chatbots being sentient and a slave and face legitimate anger, and then they will start claiming ‘harassment’.

Agreed, but b/c legislation/regs involves research, consultation, dealing with lobbyists, public blowback, etc. most govts don't want to do it 2x in a row. Once to start and 2nd when later international standards differ. They'll get accusations of flip-flopping or being a nannystate. Sad but true.

example. Just go back to the start of Trump's war and look at a map of the US bases Iran attacked: it's the Iranian border. As obvious as it may be to state it, America is the biggest asshole on the planet and deserves all of the blowback we get.

I understand it could be a while before large public schools (particularly in the South) start thinking this, but there are a lot of small private schools (particularly in the northeast) that could follow Wesleyan’s lead here.

in 480 hours we will start getting results back. if it is a Dem tsunami I don't see much what he can do except blaming the GOP for not acknowledging how great he is.
he might not know it but people below him know if he tries anything the blowback could be much worse than the possible gains.

I start to think the AI tech bros are getting a little worried about the blowback they are causing.

I loved the episodes he did. The people shitting on them either have no taste, or they're disingenuous cowards who decided since the series is on its last season, they could finally unleash all the vitriol they've had against it without too much blowback from the fans who've watched from the start.

Wile E. Coyote's Carrot Train Trap
Alt: Cartoon character Wile E. Coyote prepares explosive carrots in a work shack in attempt to catch Bugs Bunny. Coyote calls himself “super genius” as he works. He is unaware that Bugs has towed the shack onto railroad tracks. We see train approaching through window behind Coyote, who does not notice until the last second, when he pulls window blind to obscure view of train that is about to run him over.

It’s for the same reason that Westerners lose their mind if you even start discussing that 9/11 was a blowback event or that the US actions afterwards were similarly horrifying.

It’s too bad. I thought he was a smart guy. This is just the start of a journey that ends with him making Angel pictures propaganda. The blowback from this will only harden his resolve, as it does so many past-their-prime men and he’ll start moving further right. He’s too deep to turn back now.
