Bases: Stylisation vs realism.
Warham minis are heavily stylized. Weird proportions, oversized weapons etc.
Yet we often strive to make bases look real, a strange disconnect. I prefer the thematically stylized sculpts. It's why I made comic bases for borderlands & cell for anime.

An interesting distinction is that folks sometimes confuse Boarderlands style for cel shade (presumably because of the inks) but Boarderlands has noise and some blending and gradients in its shading as well as cell like blocks, described by one of its makers as not cel, but 'comic book'.

I wouldn't pay $80 for a new Boarderlands game because I don't know what Boarderlands is, and lets be honest... I wouldn't pay $8 for a new Boarderlands game.

Both of these styles are very time consuming, especially the 'ink' outlines and detailing. But even with my limited skills, they do look cool!

This is a fun inverse to my favorite example of “systems do matter, actually” - run Keep On The Boarderlands using Reign 2nd edition. The mechanics for companies and assumption that everyone is a human being and diplomacy happens is baked into the mechanics!

-Named NPCs have little jobs for you.
-Money is just gold. It isn’t broken-down into 5 metal types. The main game should do this 😝

A while back I went of a tear and re-acquired all the DnD books I owned in my youth. While doing so I got 4 seperate copies of the land mark module 'keep on the boarderlands'
Never played it, but I had like 4 of it :P

8 Comic Book (Boarderlands): A dirty, textured style that includes lighting. Low saturation, and defined not only by outline 'inks' but with inks being used to add illustrative detail. Time consuming but not as much as cell shade 6.5hr
