By focusing closely on the mechanical connection where the striking beam meets its pulling mechanism, the image evokes a profound sense of weight, history, and the resonant spiritual rituals of Japanese temple grounds. Dominating the upper right portion of the frame is a thick, horizontal wooden striking beam (shumoku), traditionally fashioned from whole logs of durable timber like cypress or pine. The warm, golden-brown grain of the wood is deeply weathered, showing fine splits, natural grain lines, and darkened patches from decades of exposure to the elements.
