The horrors of #taiji means it's a green cove!
8 bottlenosed have been taken for further inspection, and the 2nd part of the fair sized pod are now in the inner nets.
Please spread the word about this, and don't fund these hunts by purchasing a ticket to a dolphin show.

#WIPSnips: dark

Conall, Aibreán, & Rebecca Fawcett are holed up in the booley hut for a stormy night. There's talk of ghost stories, and Rebecca encourages Aibreán to tell one for her first time. And she indeed knows of a fright.

vocab: crúiscín /'kroosh-keen/ (Ir) = jug; corbie = raven (Scots).

The wife is at it again. Now it’s reels about how a Florida contractor was kidnapped by bottlenosed dolphins and forced to do undersea construction for them and once he was released and told his story Dolphins have been washing up on shore because the US is in a clandestine war with them

So thanks to @paulbagguley.bsky.social can confirm that we saw at least 6 bottlenosed dolphins for over 20 mins in the Tees estuary this lunchtime. Plus countless terns, loads of guillemots and probably over 100 seals hauled up on seal sands. We got a great view of the female smew at Saltholme too.

Many! It wasn't the best watch I've been on, but we did see Fin whales (second largest animal on planet) many Humpback whales, Minke whales, and a delightful pod of Off Shore Bottlenosed Dolphins who played in the wake of the boat and were very silly. The pic I posted is of a Humpback feeding.

Fantastic walk on Vatersay last night. A distant perched Golden Eagle, bottlenosed dolphins, 3 species of Jellyfish, a calling corncrake, frog orchids, and a host of machair plants. The pinnicle was 3 short-eared owls. To see 1 short-eared owl is rare enough!
There will be a walk next week.

Wildlife biologist Angela Ziltener from the University of Zurich noticed Indo-Pacific bottlenosed dolphins participating in interesting behavior where dolphins would take turns brushing their bodies against sea sponges or corals along the sea floor.
