Breiðavík may look like just a tiny village with a church and a few scattered houses — but its wide golden beach, cradled by cliffs, is pure magic.

Arnarstapi (Icelandic pronunciation: [ˈa(r)tnarˌstaːpɪ])or Stapi a small village at the foot of Mt. Stapafell [ˈstaːpaˌfɛtl̥] between Hellnar village and Breiðavík [ˈpreiːðaˌviːk] farms on the southern side of Snæfellsnes

Iceland is full of quietly beautiful and solitary places. Breiðavíkurkirkja, is the church in Breiðavík. Traveling around the Westfjords is pure escapism—desolate, serene, and only a few KMs from Látrabjarg (the western-most tip of Europe).

There have been some #cancellations at hotels in the #Westfjords around the solar #eclipse in #Iceland. The hotel in #Breiðavík was especially badly affected, however, where nearly 90 places opened up in an instant.

Even though I'm mostly in the quiet of home these days, I still wouldn’t mind being in blissfully desolate Breiðavík... out near the western most tip of Europe, in Iceland's Westfjord. #Breiðavík #breidavik #westfjords #fjord #iceland #Europe #LandOfFireAndIce

Wikipedia's entry is a cascade of exotic place names =

"Arnarstapi or Stapi is a small fishing and tourist village at the foot of Mt. Stapafell [ˈstaːpaˌfɛtl̥] between Hellnar village and Breiðavík [ˈpreiːðaˌviːk] farms on the southern side of Snæfellsnes, Iceland."

Every time @sophiecarr.bsky.social‬ posts it puts me back north, this one reminds me of the wind-blown sand formations on Breidavik beach.

I was wondering why this didn't look familiar, since I have been to Patreksfjörður and Látrabjarg, but I stayed at Hotel Breidavik and it looks like that road turns inland before this lighthouse.

I'm sorry I missed it, so thank you for sharing this really nice photo.

Birding Iceland - Yann found two male Wood Ducks (Aix sponsa – Brúðönd) at Breiðavík (NW) this morning, about as far west as you can get in Iceland, near Látrabjarg. Wood Ducks are rare in Iceland with only 7 birds recorded before. | Facebook https://dir.lat/3qc58C

Newly published research provides new evidence for a 'mini Ice Age' in the 6th-century CE: granite from Greenland that likely "rafted" on icebergs to Iceland and deposited in a datable layer. Here's a link to the recent article in -Geology-:
