Thank you. It dates back to the mid to late 16th century, although the bressumer beam might be older and perhaps re-used from something else. One of my favourite pastimes is imagining who has sat in those inglenooks and what they were reading, discussing or thinking about.

Flu again or whatever circulates atm. Anyway found the willpower to cut this huge bressumer(?) beam that I replaced years ago. I always hesitate to cut crafted things like this. Look at the nice intact wood though. This one is from a house built in 1834. Felled around 300 years ago.
