I heard Stewart Lee use the word 'broch' in a skit and I had no idea what it was. Now I know! Thank you.

«Nulla può il poeta, a nessun male egli può porre rimedio; gli si presta ascolto soltanto se magnifica il mondo, non lo si ascolta se lo rappresenta nella sua realtà. Soltanto dalla menzogna nasce la fama, non dalla conoscenza!»

Looked a little less green a few weeks ago, but definitely worth it for the breadcrumb signposts alone.

🧵This thread is the last one from the day we visited the castle and the iron age broch. The first pic is of a gorgeous war memorial and the rest is landscape and wildlife.

That's our Kentucky friend in pic #2. Right across the street from this broch is a brewery called "Dun Brewing," after the Gaelic word for "Broch," "Dun." Their pilsner is so fine, I brought some home with us!

A broch is essentially a four story, dry stacked stone fortified dwelling with a thatched roof and central heating! It was a great way to keep warm and dry in the Scottish weather!

@carhandle.bsky.social - Motherwell? Nah, she's crying after getting humbled by The Broch in the cup.😎

wonder how much more of an archaeological-Turducken Edins Hall could be,
maybe inside the broch there's a standing stone,
...and on the standing stone is a latin inscription,
...and set into one of the letters is a particularly elaborate signet ring

It's just too much excitement this early 🫣

For the love of god, please separate future broch/hillfort content 🙏

If you like hillforts AND Brochs, here's a fantastic combo for #HillfortsWednesday

Dun Telve broch, Glenelg. These, rather enigmatic, iron age structures are by no means fully understood. This one is second only to Mousa broch in terms of height. I will dig out a photo of that sometime. #motorcycling #Scotland #photography

I was interested to see something similar at the Pictish village at the Broch of Gurness on Orkney. Nearly 3 millennia later than Skara Brae, possibly cultural continuity or more likely the available building materials constrain dressing table options!

Ooo, The Broch on the telly ana'!

@carhandle.bsky.social - First Broch keeper to score a goal? Premier League cup, in the dying minutes so brought him up and he scored the late equaliser.

One broch, two millennia, three murders. ‘Thicker Than Water’ is a compelling murder mystery set in northern Scotland. The Castle of Old Wick in Caithness is visited as the hunt for a killer gathers pace.

Well Stanley Noble has a mission for you, should you choose to accept it.

Your favourite home and favourite away kit for The Broch, any eras, doesn't matter. Just inspiration for new kits you see! 😉
