Spectacular Sunrise over Chard this morning, before holding another Conservation Workday at the Dorset patch with EuCan volunteers. Last of the brushcutting completed & willow, birch & ash felled after winter storm damage. A very successful day! #UKbirding

Today's BnB guests will be arriving late, so I've done some extra maintenance and will be heading down the paddock later to eliminate stray environmental weeds and do some more brushcutting near the buildings for bushfireprep.

Morning all. A damp, dreary one today. We’re continuing to clear the overhanging branches on the old glasshouse and will be brushcutting the south perimeter.

So after the tractor work, the margins and level changes need strimming/brushcutting. After four years without olives, it’s nice to pull the land back into shape, even if the trees are in need of a good haircut…

I rowed out to some of the islands at Parson's Carr nature reserve today. In spring these are home to many Black-headed Gulls, which prefer no trees and less vegetation, so was brushcutting, Sophie was chainsawing

Today on our 1st work party at Kilsby Lane LWS we planted Rowans on the spoil heap of scrapings when the artificial pitches were laid. Mitigating light pollution. And did a bit more grassland and scrub mangement using our battery brush cutter and hand tools. Good to be back but the site has "issues"

I figure when I get around to doing my brushcutting this spring I will just have to pay someone to haul it off. I hate that. But I don't OWN a pickup and I don't want to dragoon my pickup-owning friends into helping me haul the yard waste to the dump!

Not this year - it was in the backyard where I've been brushcutting back willows and wild grapevines... now that they've been cleared, it'll look more presentable this spring. The folks got sick and left things go for too long, so I wasn't taking many snaps of the disaster area 🤪

.....we find our method of brushcutting then spraying to be highly effective in controlling weeds and actually cuts down on the amount of chemical used overall - less vegetation to spray means less chemical used.

Brushcutting gets the material down and out of the way. This reduces competition and also gives us easier access to inspect the trees, beat up etc. There is some value in the weeds for pollinators etc, so we leave the middle of the lanes, only removing anything impacting trees
