Load of emphasis in Irish folklore sources on washing and scalding utensils for buttermaking - with water that often from a well. And thanks to authorities for work on eradicating bovine tb and brucellosis. Despite precautions, my granny had a dose of brucellosis in the 50s that lasted 3 years.

The short answer is branding. There are a limited number of buttermaking machines in NZ. All NZ-made butter comes off the same machines. Only the wrapping is different.

My adventures in buttermaking have never progressed beyond the 'shaking up a jar of cream by hand' which is oddly satisfying and fun but lacks the drama of culinary power tools.

He's like a utility player. They hired a couple of experienced blacksmiths, so he's only done that a couple of times this year. He's sometimes demonstrates buttermaking, laundry, cooking, teacher or farmer.

Yep, cultured buttermilk, which I think is all that can be bought anywhere.

I don't think anyone's mentioned what happens to by-product-of-large-scale-buttermaking buttermilk, but would love to hear if anyone does know.
