Mice with cancer-related wasting had about 30% greater grip strength after antibody treatment than untreated mice. The candidate’s safety and efficacy in humans remain unproven. doi.org/hcqqtq
Antibody candidate could help preserve appetite and muscle strength in patients with cancer
In cancer cachexia, patients continue to lose weight, muscle and fat even when they eat. A KAIST research team has developed a therapeutic candidate that blocks a signal responsible for appetite suppression, weight loss and excessive energy expenditure.

I may or may not have cachexia but the people weighing me at appointments don't seem to notice because I'm heavy set so losing 35lbs since August doesn't seem to be raising alarm bells for anyone but me 🤷‍♀️

Experts in **sleep medicine** emphasize that adequate rest should be treated as a crucial health measure, alongside proper nutrition and exercise, warning that performance and health inevitably suffer when rest is restricted. In oncology, researchers are investigating **cancer-induced cachexia** , a severe muscle-wasting condition driven by tumor-released inflammatory signals that significantly contributes to mortality rates, by targeting underlying molecular pathways rather than just managing symptoms. Additionally, recent agricultural research demonstrates that **elevated carbon dioxide levels** significantly alter the protein composition of wheat, impacting baking quality and potential digestive tolerance, which highlights the need for crop breeding strategies to focus on nutritional and qualitative traits rather than mere harvest volume. Our ECG tool was validated on breathless 78-year-olds with some cachexia. My list now is breathless 55-year-olds, obese, hypertensive, on four drugs. Same model, new prevalence, worse PPV. We bought capability in 2019. Out of Capacity? Add Capability.

J saw his Mum waste away, & determined to stay fit following #Whipple loss of 30 lbs. He regained all but 8. For 6 years, his weight held (we worked hard!) but dropped in his last 2 yrs. In his final weeks, the cachexia was severe & heartbreaking. Welcome research! ⬇️
