🏃 The Caddy server will now be faster to serve many dynamic web applications (PHP with FrankenPHP or FPM, Python with Caddy Snake...) thanks to a new strategy for "try_files" that we've just merged! github.com/caddyserver/...
fileserver: Add `first_exist_fallback` strategy for `try_files` by dunglas · Pull Request #6699 · caddyserver/caddy
When using modern frameworks such as Symfony and Laravel, by convention, all requests are handled by a front controller named index.php in the document root. Currently, Caddy does a call to fs.Stat...

A beautiful side-effect of this forwards-compatibility mechanism: if you maintain an application (vs library), you don't need to worry about compatibility with older Go versions!

Just document that you require GOTOOLCHAIN=auto and bump the go.mod version at will.

codebases that i quite like: go-git (and go-billy), maypok86/otter, caddyserver, tailscale.

i don't know if i feel affectionate about it it but i'm at least extremely amused by the cursed amalgamation of caddy and tailscale within a single binary

Caddy will now automatically adapt to the available memory. This improves performance of Caddy but also of Mercure and FrankenPHP, especially when using containers (Docker, Kubernetes, LXC…).
feat: automatically set GOMEMLIMIT by dunglas · Pull Request #6809 · caddyserver/caddy
Setting the Go runtime memory limit can improve significantly the performance of Caddy (and FrankenPHP and Mercure, according to our tests), especially on low-resources machines and containers. Thi...

When optimizing code, always write a benchmark to check that it's actually improving something. Sometimes it's of little use, or even counterproductive. Case in point: my latest PR for the Caddy server.
perf: improve try_files matcher by dunglas · Pull Request #6709 · caddyserver/caddy
This is an experiment to use repl.Match() to (likely) prevent useless string manipulations. This improve the performance of 2%, but consumes 10% more memory. I'm not sure if it is worth it. (th...

I have experimented quite a bit with on-demand tls, it's probably be the easiest way to support this.

You can add any domain to your smallweb instance, and smallweb will automatically obtain the tls certificate at runtime the first a user access it.
