Stu is genuinely concerned about overloaded rail systems - we know this because he single-handedly delayed the entire CaHSR project past the point of viability.
Hahaha oh my god, Stu Flashman (an "environmental" attorney) is arguing that *too many* people will use transit if SB79 passes, it will overload rail systems, and people will stop using transit altogether.

Stu is genuinely concerned about overloaded rail systems - we know this because he single-handedly delayed the entire CaHSR project past the point of viability.
That gets at the heart of why SNCF left in 2010, but is back now: funding. In 2010 CAHSR had little funding, all tied up in lawsuits. In 2026, CAHSR has an annual guarantee of $1B/year - enough to guarantee private financing. Critics who would have CAHSR defunded don't really want SNCF on board.

Mistakes were made, but since 2010, CAHSR has made a lot of progress. Environmental review is nearly done. It has consistent annual funding. CAHSR has brought on cost-saving in-house staff - who cut $14B in design costs created by consultants. So why do critics focus on out of date information?

my best guess tomorrow is some kind of pause or clawing back of the $3.1 billion FSP-national grant CAHSR received in 2023, by far the biggest tranche of federal funding (total: ~$6.8 bil out of ~$29 bil as of 2023)? unless, of course, DOT "cancels" CAHSR outright which wow lmfao

Looking at all the roadway structures CAHSR has built I wish CA State Gov would order Caltrans to collaborate on the project. I don’t see why we can’t shift some scope and cost from CAHSR to Caltrans.
