Got some math research published in 2022 which led to a math art residency at Rose-Hulman in 2024.
Math is beautiful, I think it helps keep my brain "young."

I re-stumbling over Calc3 (again!) so I can understand some biomedical research more completely. That Heaviside vs MacAulay and Tait stuff is some real sicko viewing fun.

A HS Calc3 student of mine sent me this. It's excellent for so many reasons.
1) My students get math in their algorithm. Love those nerds.
2) The video talks about relative size and crappy flat maps.
3) The Calc III content in it is awesome! This will be my lesson tomorrow.

Yes. It’s a single param (slope) with a line forced to go through a given point (“fixed”), which means that while it can be extended to the more common 2 param case seen by Ss, it requires knowledge that they don’t have yet. Btw, I do the 2 param case in my calc3 class via partial derivs.

Now, 20yr later, I still have nightmares about just outright missing the final. That didnt happen, but my brain was so convinced that I couldn't remember to go on the last day to the class I skipped all but the first day, I still have the dream.

My BS is civil engineering. Longest chain of classes would be remedial->precalc->calc1->-calc2->calc3/physics->statics->mechanics->structural engineering->steel design->structural systems.
So, 5 years unless you caught up in summer.

Even if you make it past a certain point in school, make sure you at least pull your baby to your level, then push them further. My oldest is in college for mechanical eng and taking courses like Calc3!!! I didn't get past discrete math, so you do your best to ensure they do better than you.

My niece had to go to office hours about being frustrated by a Calc3 homework problem. Turned out she was trying to understand it deeper than the actual assignment. Professor asked her if she wanted to become a paid tutor.

I don't think the choice is textbook vs source material. A 3rd option is a carefully crafted collection of problem sets with some supplementary material and project work. I've taught A2/Geo and Calc3 this way for some time. It's lively and IMO yields deeper understanding and independence of mind.

i have spent the entirety of today and the last several days primarily practicing calc3 shit and I'm still finding oddities that i need to know such as that we don't do F(n) * N for flux integrals it's just F * N
