I want to get the LotR trick taking game and Calimala to the table. Maybe even Dune Imperium.
It looks like we're going to get a lot of snow in New England over the next week. What games are you hoping to play while you escape the cold?

Abgeschlossen haben wir dieses WE heute mit Oliva, Calimala, 7 Wonders und Qwixx. Calimala sieht toll aus, brauche ich aber nicht noch einmal. #Boardgames #brettspiele

The second edition of Calimala offers a clarifying look at Fabio Lopiano's breakout design, including the action selection and social dynamics that have become the hallmarks of his catalog. This is a good one. My review: spacebiff.com/2025/08/21/c...

I don't mention it very much on here but I have prints of a lot of my covers available to purchase on my website. I've just added new ones for Speakeasy, Galactic Cruise, Cascadero, Sausage Sizzle, and Calimala. Check them out at www.ianotoole.com/store

Taking Greylune for another spin with @ryanschneider.bsky.social, Cati, and Owen. Much better on the second outing and with four players. It's a nice improvement over Spyrium, but mostly makes me want to play Caylus or Calimala.

Calimala is a strategic 2–5 players #boardgame set in medieval Florence: noble families compete for influence through trade, production, and civic contributions. With worker placement on shared intersections that trigger combos for all, timing is key. Smart, elegant, and ruthless!

As you can see, I did not attend Gen Con! Had a busy week and didn't play too many games. Alas!

Played two fun Euros today, Calimala (the first edition set) and Heaven and Ale. Both were fun games, an hour for the first (2nd place), about 90 minutes for the second (first place). Calimala pictured here.

To me, this was a joke *at my expense*, both when I wrote it and when it came up at game night! My wife called me a dork for knowing about the Calimala AND for assuming any other human being would also know about it. Everybody at the table laughed at me! I laughed at me!

Two of my favorite games over the last year have been Calimala and Hansa Teutonica. Games that one would describe as beige euros.
But my goodness do they have so much more interaction and tension than a ton of more recent euro games.
These games let players suffer setbacks.

Today's video is about a beige euro game full of wood and no randomness. And it's excellent, it's just a fantastic game with a brutally brain hurting decision space and the kind of action system that gives you anxiety! Fantastic, gold medal game, find out more here. youtu.be/T2v7e7PvFl4
