Calotropis procera (apple of Sodom, giant milkweed). Native to Africa and Asia but widespread in the Caribbean. I saw it all over St. John, often growing in the most inhospitable spots imaginable. 🌱🌴

Yesterday was a varied day for our guests on our Fabulous Fuerteventura tour, with not only endemic plants to enjoy, but also a vagrant Eastern Yellow Wagtail, and Plain Tiger #butterflies - the latter glued to their larval foodplant, Calotropis procera, where we also found their caterpillars.

Okay I know you’re surprised to hear this BUT I found a huge Crown Flower (Calotropis gigantea AKA Asclepias gigantea L.) full of all life stages of Monarchs (Danaus plexippus).
