Sometimes I think about how the padded feet of modern camels are actually a reversion from the hooves most artiodactyls today have. Some fossil camelids, like Stenomylus on the right, had unguligrade feet, but all camelids since the Pliocene were digitigrade.

Bovids are members of Bovidae and covers cows sheep goats etc etc but not camelids.
The other way to digest plant cellulose is hind-gut fermentation, hind-gut fermenters include rabbits and horses.

NZF apparently very supportive of furries now, because we have a Code of Welfare (Llamas and Alpacas) which applies to human biological female camelids.

Why must all the small adorable camelids be extinct? We've domesticated virtually all the extant ones; we can make household breeds if we wanted to.

Camelids (camels, llamas, alpacas, et al) are not ruminants. Their stomachs have 3 chambers, not 4 as ruminants do, with no division between omasum and abomasum. They are correctly classed as fore-gut fermenters but not ruminants despite having a rumen. Weirdly ruminants are bovids (not bovines)

Ruminants (yaks, goats, giraffes, camels) have a giant fermentation vat at the start of their digestive system.
It’s great at working *with* gravity but super terrible at keeping things down when gravity is not in their favor.
For this reason, I do not recommend taking yaks to space.
