#capital-allocation
What are we supposed to do in a world that says this is optimal capital allocation
Cara Cunningham says her engagement on Facebook skyrocketed when she started posting AI slop of her and fake men, and that she’s paid off half her mortgage with the earnings.

Get ready for a lot more of this….

the golden era of public internet discourse was actually a failure of efficient capital allocation. as capital allocation becomes more efficient, public discourse will inevitably become barren of value

If you invest hundreds of billions in a technology and one news story can make it seem like none of that was necessary maybe this isn’t an industry where the market data and capital allocation thing is working right.

“Wall Street ensures the efficient allocation of capital.”
"The AI infrastructure build-out is so gigantic that in the past 6 months, it contributed more to the growth of the U.S. economy than /all of consumer spending/" - @mims.bsky.social

My takeway is that The US has gone ALL IN BET OF THE 21st Century on AI, while China has gone all in on green tech
Original draft of syllabus is here - www.programmablemutter.com/p/the-politi... - still in need of a summary piece on the role of capital in shaping the AI economy

i am nominally a capitalist for lack of better options, hundreds of billions of dollars in private wealth is an extremely poor allocation of capital

I was never a market fundamentalist by any means. But recent equities market credulity has kind of dented my assumption of at least broadly rational capital allocation

it's almost as though a rigorous disclosure regime and thorough vetting process before companies can raise billions of dollars in financing helps to ensure an efficient allocation of capital

As a first approximation: at some point, the allocation of large amounts of capital acquired a positive moral valence in itself.

This has been a disaster.
If you acknowledge that the richest man in the world is a Nazi is has all sorts of unsettling implications about the moral valence of success and the arc of society, so it's easier to just ignore it entirely.
i have told people i know point blank that musk has hundreds of thousands of deaths on his hands and provided links to reputable sources. i did the same with the CSAM stuff. it deeply frustrates me that they just act like its not real

i think "counterproductive allocation of capital" is better phrasing, as it entails nothing about the right allocation thereof

*CENTENE WITHDRAWS 2025 GUIDANCE

A $28 billion, highly medicaid dependent healthcare corporation pulling all current year guidance despite cuts not kicking in for 18 months is a pretty good indicator that forward capital allocation in the sector is hitting now

and, critically, capital mis-allocation can continue to aggregate all the same in that window

*a bad capital allocation

seems like a funds allocation choice designed to just feed their human capital straight to Anthropic

our capital allocation corps are not doing their jobs properly
This person, John, and his collaborator have just received $519,000 in funding from Survival and Flourishing Fund. Link: share.google/92h2uuZVEuoQ...

Global capital allocation sure would be a lot more efficient with one ketamine overdose.

the market is tradable, sort of, but uninvestable - and that will start to be reflected by a freeze in corporate capital allocation decisions

Climate tech is moving from “nice to have” to “smart capital allocation.”

BCG found:

55% of low‑carbon tech is already cost‑competitive (or soon), + another 10% is only marginally pricier.

Companies pursuing green growth (2016–2024) earned higher revenue valuations.

There are absolutely economic fundamentals driving this. If companies can’t plan for trade arrangements, they can’t plan for currency fluctuations, capital allocation, etc…

special interest in capital allocation

It’s a gift to share space in rooms like this one, full of women working to expand capital allocation, women who know the uphill battle firsthand.

We’ve seen progress, but across venture capital, private equity, and other forms of capital allocation, barriers remain.

The democratization of capital allocation, perhaps.

Immediately, even Ehrenreich’s definition seems incoherent, at least as interpreted by Liu. Certainly, there are commonalities between salaries mental workers. But is a banker, who *literally controls the allocation of capital*, particularly similar to a programmer who sells labor power?

Do think we have a fundamental societal level failure of allocation of capital, in lapart rge because the levers have been concentrated into the hands of a handful of bizarro morons
December 8, 2025 at 6:08 PM
it does have to be inherently bad to be a capital allocation actually. "this is a capital allocation" assumes that it will not deliver value. if it does not deliver value it cannot be a good way to subjugate labor.

the impact on labor is worth dealing with and requires a better position on ai

This is the efficient allocation of capital we were promised
