Forced factory labor plus sleep deprivation: a potentially lethal combination. #CarceralCapitalism #prisons
One thing I never thought about until doing this story: How bad sleep in jail leads to poor legal outcomes. People are so tired they have trouble participating in their defense & lawyers say some clients are so exhausted they take plea deals they might have otherwise avoided.

Incarcerated people generate over **$11 billion** in goods and services each year—often for just pennies an hour. This isn’t rehabilitation. It’s exploitation.

Prison labor is modern-day slavery.

United in congratulating yourselves for copying what passes for justice in the fascist USA? The rich (liars … per Carney) economic & political ruling class creates decades of economic decay & crisis—then punishes & institutionalizes the victims of the economy it destroyed.

This has been a problem with machine learning models long before LLMs. (Cf. ShotSpotter or the use of ML in probation)

They can only be trained on the data we have, which is riddled with institutional racism, creating an entirely tautological justification for continued racism.
Ontario jails are using an AI tool that claims to predict prisoners’ behaviour. And it’s disproportionately placing Black prisoners in maximum security.

An investigation by @desmondcole.bsky.social reveals the province knew the tool would discriminate against Black people—and used it anyway.

Blockbuster story from AP – prison labor powers the biggest brands in the U.S. food business and fast food chains. Target, Walmart, Aldi, Burger King are involved and many more. Two years of reporting by the Pulitzer-winning team of Robin McDowell and Margie Mason.
Prisoners in the US are part of a hidden workforce linked to hundreds of popular food brands
In a sweeping two-year investigation, The Associated Press found goods linked to prisoners wind up in the supply chains of everything from Frosted Flakes cereal and Ball Park hot dogs to Gold Medal fl...

After Davos & Carney’s own confession👆🏻this picture is clear. The rich Canadian ruling class created decades of immiseration while profiting & lying about it—then congratulates itself for punishing & institutionalizing the victims of the economy they gutted.
