Many will say, "well, anyone can do what a careworker does!"
To be honest, my experience of CEOs leads me to believe a lot more people could work full time as a CEO than as a careworker.
I'd bet Trump couldn't hack a month as a careworker even in his youth. Same with Luxon.

When I got my shoulder fixed I was in a sling for 3 months. I had a careworker who turned up at 6.30am every day, helped me shower & dress, washed my hair, made my bed, chopped up veges for meal prep (stir fry & spagbol saved my life), vacuumed, brushed & tied up my hair.

My Mum's care worker helps her shower & get dressed every morning. She works 0700 to 8.45pm, 3 hrs off during day.
Has every second weekend off, but that's still 12 days in a row. Staff shortages have meant she missed her weekend off: is working 26 days straight.

If you have not got ILR, and you come as a careworker, you (broadly) have to stay in your sponsored employment; there is little flexibility in changing employment. Careworker employment is low paid. Giving ILR gives flexibility for getting higher wages.

Weird thing is that as a careworker you get to traipse round rooms all evening and quite often all night too, while attending to personal care needs. No beer though.
Being an MP involves having to be around in the evening to do nothing more than traipse through a room at random intervals. They've often been working since early that morning (ministers especially). The evenings aren't comparable to normal work because it's not comparable to a normal job.

In recent years, I've been treading water, working to survive. During my time as a careworker, I was urged a number of times by paramedics I worked with to consider retraining with them. While my current job in media is objectively the nicest, front line care was the most rewarding & I miss that.
