CC: St. Louis and that new SLMPD drone contract. With state control and the death of CCOPS, they have no incentive to be honest with us about their capacity and usage.
Right now, the only thing holding back most police from deploying armed drones and robots is the policies of companies and the social stigma surrounding the issue. Neither of these will hold forever. We need regulation. www.eff.org/deeplinks/2...

The SLMPD used to have their ALPR use plan available online so the public could see exactly what they had (thanks taxpayers) and how it was supposed to be used. They've deleted that transparency site. But the plan came through the #stlboa thanks to CCOPS-as of 2024 www.stlouis-mo.gov/government/c...

2024 was a bad year for surveillance in San Francisco. But EFF will continue the fight to ensure technology aids, rather than hinders, safety and equity for all people.

APD's surveillance program launched in 2007 w/ 17 cameras. Today, ~ 60K cameras are linked to local law enforcement. When police collect massive amounts of data about us, it can be sold, hacked, or misused. So we're advocating for a "CCOPS" ordinance in Atlanta. Learn more: acluga.org/popatl.
