I have no clue what I would be. I started listening in 2020 but have listened to some tracks on and off earlier than that, basically became obsessed with the genre to this day. Now I have a shelf covered in cassettes and a CD tower next to a shitty player we found on Amazon.

My punishment was when my young children decided to play John Barrowman’s reading of “Another Life” on a long car journey. I belatedly realised how unwise this was when failing to stop the CD before the narrator described someone’s “fuck-me shoes”.

The Hawks CD I got from the UK & Size from Switzerland didn’t incur import charges. The CD was due to the low price I paid. I had multiple messages w/ the seller from Switzerland abt import fees & he labeled my Size LP as a gift w/ a stated value of $50 - something he said had worked before. It did!

Yeah, Tower Records, Love Music, Silver Platters & Cellophane Square all did a wildly fast trade in imports between my friends & I alone in jr. high. I was copping Smashing Pumpkins, Pearl Jam & Beck imports; they chased down NIN & Marilyn Manson imports. So much CD Cassette boombox dubbing.

You hit the nail on the head, there are many songs I know sung by other artists that I didn’t know were written by him.. it was a eye opener when I borrowed a compilation cd of his work from the local library years ago, only to discover I already knew half of them 👍 I think Waylon or Willie did this

Yes, but.. *Sometimes it's also about the actual sound. But this varies a lot. Take Peter Gabriel, for example. For some reason, his quite recent film music *picture disc* sounds awesome - significantly better than the CD (which I also have). But his latest album is the opposite, weirdly.
