I do not really disagree with this, but I think it's myopic to say that this centrality dates to the last three years. What's happened is that an implicit bipartisan consensus that was rarely challenged has imploded, and that centrality is now being litigated and interrogated out in the open.
I think Israel has behaved abhorrently and committed many war crimes over the past three years.
But the sheer… centrality it has taken in many corners of US politics is an alarming trend on its own and opens up a lot of dark possibilities. It is, ultimately, another country, that we do not control.
