139 was already used (CH139 is the Jet Rangers that were used for helicopter training); CF339 or CF399 would be available, along the lines of CF188 or CC177. But we’re calling the Joint Strike Fighter CF35, so CF39 could be on the table even though two-digit designators aren’t supposed to exist.

Just booked the rest of the outbound trip for AeroGatineau. It will be my second air show this year, furthest I’ve travelled for one, and my wife’s first one. One week to go.

The final set represents some of the more recent equipment, acquired by the RCAF between 1980 and 2007.

The aircraft represented are the CP140 Aurora, CF18 (CF188) Hornet, CH146 Griffon and CC177 Globemaster III.

The DND Technical Airworthiness Manual (TAM) states that all aircraft need to have three numbers following the initial two letters, with the second letter defining the Type, so we get a “Canadianized” designation... but it was probably mostly due to being pissed off 😂
