Realized today, when someone scheduled a meeting for February 29 2024, that I've been undercounting by one the days remaining in my department chairship. Dammit.

I want to thank the four Executive Directors who have been my indispensable co-leaders—Nellie Sires, Devin Remiker, Cassi Fenili, and, now, Sarah Abel—and my chief of staff Andrea Berkeland. And all of the hundreds of great folks who’ve worked on this team during my chairship.

She also didn't originate in the left; she was a homophobic troop who was immediately lifted up as banner bearer of the center by Pelosi at the 2012 Convention and rewarded with a Vice Chairship in the DNC. Every faction of the party got duped by her at some point.

On the 51st-to-last-day of my department chairship, I got my first-ever "that's caused by stress" medical diagnosis. So that's fun.*

*My dissertation-completion pneumonia was very definitely stress-related, but it wasn't described that way; the proximate cause was [not] sleeping in my office.

Back from a week of vacation and beginning the final stretch of my chairship.

Oh good, I can blame it on my bout of long COVID rather than on my department chairship or mere aging.

(I joke, but I definitely think the long COVID took something out of me.)
A new study has some worrying findings that suggest covid may have longer-term effects on cognition and memory — and that these lead to measurable differences in cognitive performance.
Long covid may cause cognitive decline of about six IQ points, study finds
Covid may cause measurable, long-term effects on cognition and memory, a new study published Thursday in the New England Journal of Medicine suggests.

The issue is that he and the Dem establishment blocked AOC getting this chairship. He should have gone then instead of torpedoing younger leaders, as we all knew the chance of his health declining was very real

Timor-Leste opened legal proceedings against Myanmar’s military for war crimes. 👏
