I tried coating some Fabriano mixed media paper in spray acrylic then drawing with ink. It definitely stiffened the paper and took chalk a bit better. Experimental sketch.

This chalk and ink drawing by Luc-Olivier Merson titled, ‘The entry of Joan of Arc into Orléans’, is a study for an illustration in the ‘Missel de Jeanne d’Arc’ published in 1896. It is one of twenty illustrations by Merson for the publication.

Ive been trying to use chalk pastels by applying them with a makeup brush so my hands dont get dirty… i think it would look nicer if i had different colors of ink for my lines though
