THE 2025 abomination of a Curriculum written by a narrow group with a political agenda not fit for the NZ schooling system, students, teachers or society.

Think of how much wonderful, positive impact you have. I’ve taught history 21 years and the impact your work has on making young people love history and go on to seek a full, truthful, representative understanding… it’s immense. Don’t despair. I can confirm from the chalkface: the kids are alright.

I strongly agree. Senior university leadership would, I suspect, be vastly improved if those making decisions had to live, at the 'chalkface', with their consequences. There are exceptions, but the norm — ie disconnection from the day-to-day reality of teaching and research — is deeply unhelpful.
There's an alternative model to improve senior management that would not require VCs to come from educationalist backgrounds: expect them to teach and administer one module per term per annum. Much needless expenditure & poor policy derives from senior managers' distance from students & classrooms.
New generation of educationalist vice-chancellors urges change
As more vice-chancellors across the UK emerge from educational backgrounds, rather than academic ones, they argue that academic bias and hierarchies need to be dismantled

Call me a bigot but I am always suspicious when someone has no experience at the chalkface.

But oftentimes, the jobs that are best fits for common Autistic strengths require working at "the chalkface" or "walking the beat" for years. What if you need your own office from the get-go? What if you work well one-on-one with colleagues/clients but can't cope with the general public?

As I’m just about to leave my house for another week at the chalkface I think I’m safe in saying that none of us want to hear a peep from Eton.

Well once I've finished this paper. I'll send it over, cause they might change their mind given what I'm writing now from chalkface data. It's pretty stark that's a issue. Overwhelming so.

You should absolutely not be able to take a demotion at that level of management without doing a sustained spell back at the chalkface

Great day teaching ♥️ concerning talking to the chalkface teachers, though, and still hear so many teachers moving to part-time to manage the workload.

It's still unmanageable right now but seems better this year than last.

After 32 years at the chalkface, I retired today. Working in schools is a very rewarding experience and there are many things that I will miss but I'm now looking forward to spending time and energy on all the things that are important to me.

...when for the last 15 years we have been calling for more assistance in learning support.

Erica says this is what she'll use the Kahui Ako money for.

But let's not forget that Erica Stanford wants to disestablish RTLits and RTMs who support teachers and students every day at the chalkface.
