It’s all kicking off at @chashub.bsky.social #CharlestonInBetween here in Berlin - plates smashing in response to the opening session 😅 I’m joining the next panel on Libraries Under Attack. Should I wear PPE? Who has risk assessed this event?! 😂

QUESTION from the floor at #CharlestonInbetween "What is the qualitative difference between scholarly communication being controlled by five AI companies and five big commercial publishers?"
Response: the scale of AI, proximity to research institutions, avoidance of national regulation & control.

Join Lou Peck at #CharlestonInBetween this week. Don’t miss the chance to catch her insights while she is on a panel this Friday.
Meanwhile, we’re pretty sure her mini zoo at home is missing her already. But the real question is: where has her peacock gone?

Attending #CharlestonInBetween 🐻 Quick Berlin fact: the city has more bridges than Venice, over 1,700 of them! We build bridges too, connecting publishers, institutions, and funders in a neutral, non-profit ecosystem. DM Jason De Boer to cross paths and talk #OpenResearch infrastructure.

About to board my flight to #Berlin for #CharlestonInBetween on behalf of @chorusaccess.bsky.social Some really good conversations already planned, why not grab me over coffee (or more likely a very cold drink in this crazy heatwave) to chat all things #OpenResearch and #OpenAccess?

I have indeed arrived! Look forward to seeing everyone at #CharlestonInBetween tomorrow with my @chorusaccess.bsky.social hat on (which looks uncannily like a hastily bought baseball cap to keep this fierce sun off my head) ☀️

And i would add: library funding. Presented at #charlestoninbetween today that this is a result of policy decisions driving collection spending at Artes. Since we have revised spending priorities and budgets are not limitless, what we will cut is spending with for profit publishers.

Myth 1: CHORUS is US-centric. ❌
Myth 2: CHORUS only tracks APC data. ❌
Fact: We track metadata & focus on data integrity, retractions & policy auditing, not financial processing. Our global multi-stakeholder community co-creates open research infrastructure.
