My chilaca (pasilla) pepper plant has been the production winner this season. This is just one branch off the plant. There has to be close to 100 or more peppers on the whole thing. 🌱 #urbangarden #gardeningfeed

Using up a bunch of late harvests and fermenting into hot sauce. Tomatillos, garlic, onion, jalapeno, poblano, and chilaca chilis. Then will add cilantro and maybe a bell pepper at the end when I blend.

I’m definitely growing these chilaca/pasilla peppers again next year. I have never seen a pepper plant put out so many peppers before. They take forever to mature though. They’re plenty hot in the green stage but when they turn brown is the best flavor. 🌱 #zone6. #gardeningfeed #peppers

Happy birthday!! 🥰🎉💖

Fun fact:
Mexico is home to the smallest chile, chile piquin (It cannot be cultivated, it is wild), and the most large, chile chilaca. Coincidence or destiny?

First tray of seeds sown! This one's all peppers. We got Shishito, Jimmy Nardello, Golden Marconi, Lunch Box (saved seeds unknown varieties), Hungarian Yellow Wax, Lemon Spice Jalapeño, Grand Bell, Pasilla Bajio Chilaca, and Ancho (also called Poblano).

I'm crossing Hungarian Paprika with Chilaca, trying for a medium heat, earthy/fruity pepper.

No hace falta hacerlo todo tan a la mala, que sí le pide pasar, ella lo deja, y ni qué decir de abrirse las nalgas para él en cuanto vea esa chilaca morena agitándose para ella. 🩷

I am happy to report that my cheese-stuffed and bacon-wrapped chilaca peppers are delicious, no notes, will make this again

One again I am making chili. Took a suggestion from @charaznable.bsky.social and "mirrored" the peppers - ancho, pasilla, and chipotle peppers in the chili paste; poblano, chilaca, and jalapeno peppers diced and added to the chili. Delicious.

I'll see if I can find the bookmark to the seed place I buy from... If you can't, or they don't grow well there, you can also take poblanos and roast them a bit with some mesquite smoke and get a similar effect. But it's not exact.

I love these charts about pepper names, and it blows my mind every time I think about how so many have different names when they’re dried. “Ancho” is the Spanish word for “wide.”

Not sure the ratios, but I believe she said:
- Bourbon
- A little bit of Dark Rum
- Saline
- [Possibly another ingredient scratching at my brain]
- Orange twist

And this, which might be hard to get outside of Pittsburgh, but I'm sure there's an equivalent:

Might be a chilaca? Looks too dark to be Hatch/Anaheim family and kinda long for a serrano.
