Fantastic visit to Basel @biozentrum.unibas.ch this week hosted by the students from @cellarchlab.com lab! So much great science on display!

Look at this view (from one of the PI offices, top floor) and these beautiful lab pumpkins! 😅 #cilia #diatoms #chlamy @computingcaitie.bsky.social

A mówią, że teraz chlamy, nie zawsze chlaliśmy a w PRL jeszcze zamienialiśmy wódkę na jedzenie taki to był raj.

7/ One subclone (11A5) went obligate: all 16- and 32-celled colonies had soma, >50 generations after the last cold shock. Nearly all its mutated genes carry regulatory changes, and most have homologs that are cold-induced in Chlamy AND soma-specific in Volvox/Astrephomene.

That's a very much appreciated comment, spent months of my PhD curating chlamy transposons (building on some excellent earlier work by Repbase). Pleasure to work with you and your lab on this too!

Chlamy can probably do that also ???
BREAKING NEWS
The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has decided to award the 2026 #NobelPrize in Physics to Francis Halzen “for decisive contributions to the IceCube Neutrino Observatory and the discovery of high-energy neutrinos of astrophysical origin.”

I am happy with one Chlamy Nobel already 😅

Shout out chlamy
Peter Hegemann and Georg Nagel – awarded the 2026 medicine prize – discovered a remarkable protein, channelrhodopsin, in a single-celled alga.

Hegemann wondered how Chlamydomonas, a single-celled alga, is able to swim towards a light source.

Huge congratulations to all three Nobel Laureates, and especially Peter Hegemann! 👏
His seminal work on the green alga Chlamydomonas 🦠 laid the foundation for optogenetics. Thank you for putting Chlamy in the spotlight! ✨
Proof that groundbreaking discoveries don't always come from animal models! 🔬

Very exciting day for #Chlamy. Exploring natures diversity and looking at seemingly inconspicuous species can lead to great insights!

Sure humans, congrats! But, we all know that the true star is Chlamy! Also, we really need a Chlamoji!

Still celebrating today's Nobel-winning role for Chlamydomonas research, I highlight new, exciting Chlamy discovery from the Lechtreck Lab @universityofga.bsky.social. There are different (maybe 9?) Polycystin complexes in flagellar subdomains involved in fast swimming!

you're right! I found some more info about this sample, it was more likely #Stylonychia mytilus, here's a picture of a whole cell, sadly being fed with chlamy (?) as food... (no scalebar sorry!) #ciliates #protistsonsky

How come in the paper you call Chlamydomonas "Chlamy" but the Spinach is not "Spiny"

4.33 H+/ATP (1.39 ATP/NADPH) in Chlamy chloroplasts; v. interesting for the bioenergetics if that's your thing (helping to ease the energetic cost of the CCM?).

Long in the making, but happy to present the Chlamydomonas chlororibosome!
Cryo-ET🔬reveals a large new domain on the small subunit, built from multiple extensions in conserved ribosomal proteins.

This suggests greater chlororibosome diversity than expected!

This is absolutely gorgeous work from @helenfoster.bsky.social, @margotriggi.bsky.social, @gaiapigino.bsky.social and colleagues 🤩

#Chlamy cilia never cease to amaze!
There was so much to unpack with this data, we teamed up with the marvellous @margotriggi.bsky.social to help explain what we think is going on. (Please also check out our model of central apparatus assembly here: www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...)
