I cannot stop being a churchwarden even when I'm on holiday, apparently.

Though I didn't tell them that. I kept my mouth SHUT and slipped quietly out a side door before they started asking me all sorts of questions about how I, young person, ended up a churchwarden, and I got stuck there for hours.

I'm generally more of a cigar guy, but fall weather always makes me feel like smoking a pipe.

I've been re-elected assistant churchwarden.

In reality, it means more meetings and spreadsheets.

A few days ago, I stood in the graveyard of an 1100 year old church, getting damper and damper in the drizzling rain.

A woman walked into the graveyard, waved, said hello, and, as we had previously arranged, handed me a paper bag full of human bones.

The life of a churchwarden is a strange one...

Starting this year of being churchwarden as I mean to go on: in a frenzy of barely contained chaos.

My number one mental warning alarm when visiting a church is when the Churchwarden or anyone in a position of 'power' or high responsibility complains about having to do safeguarding training.
I refuse to pay for Daily Telegraph 'journalism' so it is POSSIBLE that the actual article is more nuanced, but this headline (provided by Google alerts, whom I didn't ask for it) has made me CROSS. After the last ten years of exposing safeguarding failures and the prevalence of abuse where...

After three years of being the youngest Churchwarden at the swearing in ceremony it does get a tad depressing.

But also, look at this nonsense. It's definitely giving "tell me your Churchwarden and Treasurer are, with their ages combined, under 60, without telling me that your Churchwarden and Treasurer are, with their ages combined, under 60."

Having an Assistant Churchwarden is legit amazing, you guys? Who knew that working in a team is absolutely 100% better than doing it all on your own and going insane???

Churchwarden, clearly not as poor as a church mouse - is the bagman for the Kazakhstan rich man that wants to fund Reform - is this legal?

Phoning a random churchwarden out of the blue like "Hi, the Home Office are moving a member of our community and you're their nearest queer inclusive church, would you be able to welcome them and help them settle in?"

In other news, Nigel Farage accepted £200k donation plus a trip to Davos from Iranian oligarchs who used a churchwarden as strawman to conceal their ownership of companies in UK as well as in Iran.
But sure, let's talk about national security, Nigel.

A rather splendid ornate (flowery) screen across the tower and porch of St Mary, Bruton, Somerset. Dated 1620 and possibly given by John Sampson, churchwarden. Pevsner wonders if the screen was originally made for installation elsewhere.

I happen to be a Churchwarden. I've done a LOT of church welcoming, and it's not hard to muster up a "hello". It's certainly a lot easier than silently half-following people around, whispering, and trying to pretend you're not staring.
