The concrete cicatrix of the war haunts the landscape. Even those elements which become children's dens serve as trauma mirror. Pillboxes as ghost gateways to battles never fought, an invasion of shadows from elsewhere. – #DAKilroy

I haven’t even gotten out of bed yet, and I learned a new word!

“Cicatrix” means scar.
I picked up Simon Armitage’s New Cemetery in Edinburgh and it’s exactly the kind of book of poetry that I love: a slim volume you can carry for a few days as you read a few poems each morning to ground you and reset your rhythm.

Hookland has surfeit of time traumatised towers. Edifices that wear ghost rumour as gawdy greasepaint. They bend you to their stories, urge you to run fingers across their psychic cicatrix. Sometimes they seem to flinch, sometimes it is we who recoil in horror. – #CJosiffe

All along the lonely coast the concrete cicatrix of war. Triple aspect guardians. A haunting of what-if battles. A hardening of invasion fear that clogs the English imaginative arteries. Abandoned infrastructure demanding children project phantoms upon them. – #DAKilroy

The abandoned military batteries on coast of Hookland hold their ghosts. Rememberings of war in brick and concrete cicatrix sheltering spectres we'd never charge with dereliction of duty. Spirits still standing watch, still gathering for a brew, a smoke, a natter. – #CJosiffe #Ghosts

We are never getting back together (as the the cicatrix maledictum is in the way)
Taylor Swift concept album about how in the grim darkness of the far future there is only war, but sometimes that war is Space Marines shooting Tyranids and other times it's your boyfriend leaving you because his heart was as inhospitable as Catachan

Call them corpse roads, coffin lanes, funeral walks. Call them procession paths, lych lines, wraith ways. Just as long as you remember they are the arterial routes of the dead. The long cicatrix of grief carved into the land. – Dr. Michael Benn, 1981

Along the coast you come across half-forgotten bunkers and gun emplacements and just for a second you can smell the hard tang of Capstan cigarettes, hear someone whistling 'Run, Rabbit, Run'. Not a ghosting of the dead, but a temporal shading by concrete cicatrix. – #MattAdams

The withering of the year has come early. The land tells its distress in brittle grass bleached as bone, tells it in paths made of furious dust. It screams to us through drought cicatrix of cracked earth. We walk a territory of trauma. We should expect ghosts. – #DAKilroy

There are some ghosts which haunt even though no-one living has seen them. They’ve become psychic cicatrix on the collective memory. They persist – even though they’ve been reduced to the generic names such the Grey Lady – and in this persistence, power. – #CJosiffe #Ghosts

The concrete cicatrix of war distorts time, explode it so that we no longer have a linear experience. We know in our hearts that the English haven't stopping fighting World War II, but being out among the abandoned gun placements on Hookland's coast makes it manifest. – #DAKilroy

The broken castles of England haunt with an unpleasant sense of control. Stone that hold an echoing message of know your place, do as you are told. They offer sorrow phantoms, the psychic cicatrix of repression., Lords of the land scared of their own people. – #CJosiffe #Castles

Dedwick has yet another pill box haunted by a battle that never happened. Various theories have been proposed for its phantom combatants – the bleeding through of parallel worlds, suppressed war game disasters – but there's no clean answer for its psychic cicatrix. – Brian Danebury

Parental scarelore becomes psychic cicatrix. All those tales of Wishbloods, Harrowhounds and Stay Belows become bone tattoos. Deep inside lives a dread, an internal voice of warning. The calling beauty of the river falters to old, parent-instilled fear. – #DAKilroy, 1982 #Folklore

The grotesque guardians of certain Hookland churches have a distinctive, perturbed expression. A psychic cicatrix from the things seen in their long stares across time is held in the stone. One is wary of meeting their gaze from some sense that the terror may be infectious. – #CLNolan

You will call it wild fancy, but I believe there are spots in the wood that even the trees know are monstrous. Places not tainted by human rituals, but the cicatrix of something much older. Places whose black bones scratch not only at the sky, but at the souls of all those passing – #CLNolan

[Trump is asked about the expansion of the Cicatrix Maledictum] The Cicawhat? [Advisor whispers "The Eye of Chaos" to him] Well the people of Cadia were very nasty to me, very nasty, and it's really their fault for falling.
