While it's great that CIGLR can step in to help with communications (for now - they're also a partnership with NOAA), this is just another example of cuts to NOAA making people less safe. NOAA work protects Americans - from severe weather forecasts to helping ensure safe and sustainable seafood

Winter in the Great Lakes is changing fast- and we need data to keep up. With support from @globservingsystem.bsky.social, CIGLR, and Orange Force Marine, RAEON recently deployed a glider in Lake Ontario to collect high-resolution temperature data to understand changing thermal dynamics.

This week, CIGLR Director Greg Dick & Managing Director Mary Ogdahl were in Washington, DC for the Cooperative Institute Directors meeting & met with legislators to discuss #GreatLakes research & science supporting ecosystem health: ciglr.seas.umich.edu

Meanwhile, loss of access to federal facilities affects some CIs more than others. At places like CIGLR (Great Lakes Research), access to NOAA's wet lab and equipment is crucial for carrying out environmental sampling and analysis - projects that allow scientists to keep tabs on toxins in the water.

CIGLR at U of MI, NOAA GLERL, and others are developing an interesting model, the WAVE tool, to look at ground water stress and the projected impact of a proposed/planned project. Should be useful for ensuring nothing is sited where it shouldn't be.
